Prabhakar Signboard

This is a vintage Prabhakar Hurricane Lanterns porcelain enamel advertising sign from the 1950s. Prabhakar’s hurricane lanterns have always been icons of resistance and survival in India. The hurricane lantern is such a familiar sight in rural households; the small flame hanging from its chain speaks volumes about the struggles of rural life. This signboard was used by retailers who stock this lantern. The stockist was “Shree Vishnu Stores” from Hubli, according to the information on the signboard. There is slight chipping of paint on the borders. The condition is good.
