Nandi is Shiva’s closest companion because he represents openness. The word “Nandi” comes from the Sanskrit dialect of the classical Indian language. The English translation of the Sanskrit term “Nandi” is “Happy, Joyous” or “Happy Person.” This sculpture of Nandi depicts the bull is decorated with multiple beautiful necklaces, anklets and harness. Across his back is a blanket which has a beautiful design in the center, corners, and near the vine border. Shiva on the back of Nandi is missing. The condition of the sculpture is excellent. Originated in Karnataka.
