Antique Nandi Bail Sculpture

Shiva’s closest ally is Nandi because he embodies receptivity. The protector and Lord Shiva’s mount or vehicle, Nandi, is constantly in front of the Shiva Temples. Before visiting Lord Shiva in temples, devotees must first pray to Nandi to obtain his approval. This sculpture of Nandi Bail depicts the bull with a carved neckline in a sitting position on an ancient pedestal. It originated in Karnataka. It is in excellent condition considering its age.
