Ayyanar On Elephant Sculpture I

Ayyanar is a Shaiva and Samana deity particularly praised in South India and Sri Lanka. Some studies suggest that Ayyanar may have also been worshipped in Southeast Asian countries in the past. He’s primarily worshipped together with the guardian folk deities of Tamil Nadu. This sculpture showcases Ayyanar on the elephant with a temple/saddle. Originated in Karnataka.
